How Can They Believe Without Hearing?

This passage in Romans 10 has often been used for the call to missions work, but I wonder how often it is used in context of the multiethnic call in the local church?

“For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile---the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Rom 10:12-15 NIV

In God’s eyes, we are all people in need of salvation, but to believe we need to hear. And to hear requires for someone to share. And this sharing comes from being sent. But why do we think that this is just for people called into full-time ministry or missions work.

The call is for all of us…

As we understand the priesthood of all believers, we who call Jesus our Lord and Savior are called. We are called to share, and not just to people like us. We are called to share the Gospel with ALL people God brings into our path.

And when we answer this call, especially when we do it across ethnic barriers, we are seen as beautiful!

Lord, help me to share beyond those like me. Help me to share with EVERYONE the Good News of Your love, and that salvation comes in Your name and is available to ALL who believe. For Your glory alone. In Jesus’ name…
